CoolSculpting at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic: My Honest Experience

by Lady Charlotte Lynham

Certain areas of the body simply refuse to budge. You can eat well, train consistently, book every reformer Pilates class in London, and still be left with stubborn pockets that do not respond. For me, it was my lower stomach and outer thighs, which many call “saddlebags,” though the term feels unnecessarily cruel.

After a great deal of research, I booked a consultation at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic to explore CoolSculpting, the non-surgical fat-freezing treatment designed to target localised fat without needles or downtime. I wanted refinement, not reinvention. Here is exactly how it unfolded.

The CoolSculpting Consultation: Realistic and Reassuring

Before anything was booked, I had a full consultation. This is not a case of walking in, lying down and hoping for the best. My body was measured, photographed and assessed properly to determine whether I was suitable.

CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss solution. It is designed for people who are already relatively stable in weight but have specific areas of stubborn fat. Ria, who would later carry out my treatment, was clear about that from the start. She explained how controlled cooling freezes fat cells, which are then gradually processed and eliminated by the body over the following weeks.

There was no overpromising and no hard sell. It felt medical, structured and responsible. Once confirmed as a good candidate, I booked in to treat both my stomach and outer thighs in one session.

Treatment Day: Four to Five Hours of Freezing

Because I chose to have both areas treated in one go, I was at the clinic for around four to five hours. It sounds long, but once settled, it felt surprisingly manageable.

The applicator is placed onto the area, and the first sensation is intense cold combined with a firm pulling feeling as suction takes hold. For the first few minutes, it feels tight and strange. Then the area goes numb. Completely numb.

After that, it is honestly fine. I worked on my laptop, answered emails and watched Netflix while the machine did its work. Ria checked in regularly, adjusting positioning and making sure I was comfortable. It felt efficient rather than indulgent. This is not a spa treatment with candles and music; it is a medical device targeting fat cells with precision.

And it does not hurt. It just feels odd.

The Massage: The Part No One Glamorises

Now for the part people tend to whisper about. Once the applicator is removed, the treated area looks frozen and feels solid, almost like a slab beneath the skin. To optimise results, the practitioner has to massage the area firmly to break up the crystallised fat cells.

I will be honest: it is excruciating.

The skin is numb yet deeply sensitive at the same time, which creates an intense, uncomfortable sensation. You simply have to grit your teeth and get through it. The good news is that it only lasts a few minutes. Ria prepared me for it, and in truth, knowing it would be unpleasant made it easier to endure. Once finished, the worst was over.

The First Few Weeks: Swollen, Sore and Slightly Strange

I went home feeling tender and slightly battered, as though I had done an extreme core session. The treated areas were swollen and sore to the touch, which is entirely normal.

Over the following weeks, my body went through a series of sensations. I experienced numbness, hardness under the skin, pins and needles and general soreness. At times, the stomach area felt oddly firm and textured. Not everyone experiences all of this, but I did, and it is important to say it openly.

What made a significant difference was knowing it was normal and having Ria on hand to reassure me. She checked in, answered questions and made sure I felt supported throughout. When you are dealing with a medical aesthetic treatment, the aftercare matters enormously.

Gradually, the numbness faded. The hardness softened. By around the four-week mark, the treated areas felt like my body again.

When the Results Start to Show

CoolSculpting requires patience. It is not instant gratification. The body needs time to eliminate the treated fat cells.

After about a month, I began to see visible changes. My lower stomach looked flatter and less pronounced, particularly in fitted clothing. The outer thighs appeared slimmer and more streamlined, especially from the side. It was not dramatic or artificial. It simply looked as though the stubborn bulges had softened and reduced.

The results continue to improve over two to three months, but even at the one-month point, the difference was clear to me.

Coolsculpting

This treatment is best for those who have specific pockets of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. It is not for weight loss. It is about contouring and refining shape rather than reducing overall size.

Would I Do It Again?

Knowing about the discomfort of the massage and the temporary side effects, would I have it again? Yes.

Because it is essentially a one-time treatment for a targeted area. Once those fat cells are eliminated, they are gone, provided you maintain your weight. The discomfort is temporary; the results are lasting.

That said, this is a medical machine. It should only be performed in a reputable clinic by experienced professionals. Choosing the right environment is crucial. I am genuinely glad I had it done at The Cosmetic Skin Clinic, where the process was overseen carefully from consultation to aftercare.

CoolSculpting is not glamorous, nor is it entirely comfortable. But for the right candidate, seeking subtle refinement rather than dramatic change, it is an effective solution for stubborn fat that simply refuses to shift.
