I recently came across an old photo of my hair from before I turned forty, and I couldn’t believe the difference. It was long, thick and full of life. Somewhere along the way, something shifted. My hair now feels thinner and does not seem to grow as quickly as it once did. So, as always, I remain open to discovering products and tools that might help restore some of that former glory.
Drybar: Effortless Volume and Salon-Worthy Styling
It is not often that I reach for heated styling tools, but when I do, a blow-dryer brush is my go-to. It gives that coveted lift at the roots without the juggling act of a round brush and dryer. The Drybar Triple Shot Interchangeable Blow-Dryer Brush has completely elevated the experience. With three interchangeable attachments, it offers real versatility depending on the look you want to achieve.

There is a paddle brush for a sleek, straight finish, an oval brush — my personal favourite — for a voluminous, bouncy blow-dry, and a smaller round brush perfect for soft curls, waves or styling curtain bangs. Each attachment is thoughtfully designed with a cool-tip end, making styling easier and more controlled. The ionic technology helps seal the hair cuticle, reducing frizz and minimising damage, while the combination of nylon and tufted bristles glides effortlessly through the hair.
With three heat settings and a heat-resistant storage bag included, it is also ideal for travel. I never thought I would say this, but I am completely obsessed.
Hairstory: Rethinking the Way We Wash Our Hair
My fine hair tends to get greasy quickly, and it often seems to get used to products over time. That is why trying the Hairstory New Wash range was such an interesting experience. The Cleansing and Conditioning Cream is unlike any traditional shampoo. It has a lotion-like consistency and does not lather, as it is completely detergent-free. Instead of stripping the scalp, it cleanses while maintaining the hair’s natural oils.
The process is key. Apply generously to the hair and scalp, add a little water to create a milky texture, then massage thoroughly, ideally with a scalp brush. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing very well. There is a transition period, which is worth noting. At first, my hair felt slightly greasier between washes, but this is simply the scalp adjusting. With time, balance is restored.

To complement the wash, I also tried two styling products. On air-dry days, the Hair Balm works beautifully as a lightweight, moisturising lotion that enhances natural texture and adds shine. A small amount goes a very long way, something I learned quickly.
For heat styling, the Primer is a fantastic addition. This weightless mist detangles, smooths and protects against both heat and UV damage. More of us should remember to protect our hair from UV exposure, especially on holiday.
Luxuriant 168: Supporting Growth from the Scalp
Hair health often starts at the scalp, and this is where Luxuriant 168 truly shines. Their Hair Growth Shampoo is designed for those experiencing thinning hair, whether due to stress, hormonal changes or, in my case, long Covid followed by perimenopause. It is also suitable for sensitive or dry scalps and anyone looking to improve overall hair strength and condition.
The formula is plant-based, with ingredients grown on their farm in Thailand, including Indian gooseberry, butterfly pea flower, soapberry, sesame oil, ginger root and Tiliacora triandra. It has a slightly watery texture but a beautiful fragrance and leaves the hair feeling incredibly clean and lightweight. For best results, massage gently into the scalp and leave on for a couple of minutes before rinsing.

Alongside the shampoo, the Hair Growth Serum has become a staple in my routine. It is a non-greasy, leave-in treatment that you apply directly to the scalp. I use it morning and night, focusing on areas that feel weaker, although I tend to apply it all over as my hair is generally fragile.
Consistency is key with this kind of product, but it is incredibly promising for supporting scalp health, encouraging growth and addressing hormonal hair loss.
Giving Your Hair the Care It Deserves
Hair loss and thinning can feel deeply personal, especially when it is linked to health changes, hormones or stress. After experiencing hair loss from long Covid and navigating perimenopause, I have found it reassuring to discover products that genuinely support and nurture my hair.
This routine feels like a step in the right direction, giving my hair the care, attention and nourishment it truly deserves. While results take time, there is something powerful in simply taking that time for yourself. Sometimes the journey back to healthy hair starts with a little patience and a lot of TLC.
