The Levin Hotel

by Emily Healey-Lynham

The Levin Hotel really is a hidden gem in London, perfectly located in the Knightsbridge area for those into shopping; next to Harrods. The hotel exceeded all of our expectations for a small intimate boutique Hotel, Editor Charlotte and I stayed here before a West End trip. The shops of Brompton Road and Sloane Street are close by too, a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon spending your hard earned cash! Also, the V&A, Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park are easily accessible. Knightsbridge Tube is around the corner too giving easy access to the West End.

After arriving by cab, I was amazed to see the location was perfect; the entrance is discreet, the front desk staff on check-in were exceeding helpful and had refreshments ready on our arrival, it was lovely to have a sparkling water ice cold on my arrival. Now run like The Capital by upmarket American-owned Warwick Hotels & Resorts –The Levin continues to offer the atmosphere of an elegant townhouse; a luxurious, home-from-home stay. That feel has been increased with the thoughtfully decorated lobby area, which now feels on-trend with its Art Deco style, muted colours and geometric patterned sofas and chairs. The area sees the lobby double-up as a snazzy compact breakfast room complete with neat kitchen area. The sofas are comfy and papers are on hand for a read of the day’s news, the area also incorporates a cool breakfast area where you can get refreshments 24/7.

Facilities may be limited at The Levin, but guests can pop across to the more formal, English heritage-style atmosphere of The Capital, perhaps for a cocktail in its sophisticated bar (which we highly recommend!). You can also head across to The Capital for the breakfast in the morning if you fancy hot food as The Levin itself supplies pastries, fruit, cereals, porridge and coffee – a help yourself style. We enjoyed pancakes and Eggs Benedict over at The Capital during our stay, again there the staff are attentive and helpful. All rooms are accessible via the central staircase or by the old-style lift, the rooms are beautiful and well appointed. The 12 rooms are divided into Double, Double Deluxe and one Junior Suite on the top floor. The rooms may not be large, but they have all the right amenities you need for a London break – such as Handy phones (free local calls, internet access and a guide to city), Radio, Coffee machine, Fridge (with a well-stocked mini-bar), TV, air conditioning and a nice touch – a collection of hardback Penguin classic novels. The attractive bathrooms have showers and baths and Temple Spa products, a comfy bathroom robe and slippers and the bathroom also has a divine heated floor and ambient lighting during the evening. Another nice touch was a fresh fruit bowl and bottled water in our room.

The curtains are black-out which is a god send in this area of London. The bed was comfy and soft, if you need harder pillows we recommend calling through to The Capital before your sleep Time! The entrance to our room had a tiny foyer and a second door. It was helpful for blocking hallway noise, which we never heard any other guests and also handy for leaving our shoes out of the main bedroom. If anything, else is required for guests after hours the phone line goes through to The Capital, just give them enough time to come from next door!Lunch and dinner can be taken in their sister hotel’s restaurant at the Capital. Alternatively, you can take you pick of the many cafés and restaurants in the area, the reception is on hand to recommend places.

Awesome customer service, great hotel, you feel really special as a guest. No hustle or bustle of a large chain, but all the services you might need. It feels like you are a guest in a lovely, clean townhouse. The staff are warm and attentive, and most accommodating. You cannot go wrong; we highly recommend The Levin and will be back, a very handy beautiful little pitstop in London.
