Discover Mallorca: The Perfect Off-Season Getaway

by Lorna Oakley
Mallorca

This summer was all about the beach clubs, long weekends in the med and glasses of rosé with my cousins and friends. Balance this with a big family holiday in a villa in the Balearics and content trips around this; Mallorca really is like my second home; turquoise seas, blue skies and of course my favourite places to eat.

Previously, in my Mallorca out-of-season editorial, I highlighted some of my favourite places to eat, including Market Kitchen and El Camino. So what is new this year…

From Capri to Saint-Tropez, Ibiza to Portofino, fashion-fuelled beach clubs turned summer getaways into full-on brand experiences. Over the years, I have watched brand and hotel collaborations evolve from just a handful of partnerships to a global phenomenon. Today, brands and summer destinations are joining forces to elevate the guest experience, creating immersive escapes that blend luxury, style, and unforgettable Instagram moments.

Today’s fashion insiders don’t just want a beautiful view, they want to eat, sleep and drink the collab. With this in mind, and of course the Rhode takeover of my favourite Mallorcan classic, Grand Follies beach club, I wanted to extend the summer in the most stylish way possible, via my design-led favourites on the Island. October is one of my favourite times to visit the Med, less crowds, but still balmy temperatures and of course, booking a table at your favourite spot is so much easier. Here are five that I want to share with you!

Es Princip

I wanted to introduce Es Princip first and their beautiful roof terrace. This stunning hotel is based in Palma, situated a short walk from the cathedral; it’s out of the hustle but close enough. I visited a few weeks ago, and I honestly cannot wait to go back the next time I’m in Mallorca, the interiors, the food, but most of all the staff (Sonia and Pau were utterly charming, nothing was too much trouble).

I had lunch on the top floor of Hotel Es Princip, this charming rooftop terrace offers stunning views of the sea, Palma Bay and the Cathedral of Palma. It is a truly unique setting in the heart of Palma’s Old Town.

The terrace is the ideal place to unwind, enjoy a drink or savour a refined culinary experience, surrounded by history, Mediterranean charm and one of the most breathtaking panoramas in the city. The lunch menu was the perfect balance for all palates. I chose the burrata, which was stunning (side note, portions here are generous), with a glass of local rosé.

You can understand why it’s been voted the second-best hotel in Palma. There’s more information here.

Gran Folies

Of course, I had to introduce this old school icon first. I remember 12 years ago, the first time I visited Folies, and it was an instant favourite.

Grand Folies

Gran Folies is a prestigious beach club and restaurant in Mallorca, Spain, known for its Mediterranean cuisine, stunning sea views, and luxurious atmosphere. It is one of the oldest and most exclusive beach clubs on the island; however, it still has its authentic touch and incredible views and food this time of year is perfect; there may not be so many super yachts in the bay, but this is a must-visit. Reservations can be made here.

Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor

As you may have seen from my visit to Astir Palace in Athens at the beginning of the Summer, Four Seasons really do get it right. At Four Seasons Resort Mallorca at Formentor, you can relax on a golden beach or in the shade of towering pines.

Opened in 1929, this inspirational retreat has always attracted writers, actors and the global elite. Now reborn with glamorous chic, Four Seasons blends poetic charm and incredible service at it’s luxury resort in Mallorca. The beaches are the perfect backdrop for lunches through to sunset drinks. Here’s more information on Four Seasons.

Brismar

This is another favourite of mine, situated in Port Andratx, the terrace overlooking the sea at Hotel Brismar is an experience in itself. There are few places on the island where you can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine as close to the sea as here, you have the best views of the port.

Brismar 2

The brunch will always be my favourite on the Island, it’s close proximity to Gran Follies makes it the perfect stop off point before or after you visit the beach club. The food throughout the day is faultless, however; at sunset it really comes into it’s own. Reservations can be made here.

Market Kitchen

Lastly, I couldn’t leave the incredible Rob and Amber out at Market Kitchen. Directly opposite the Santa Catalina Market, Market Kitchen is cozy, casual dining restaurant serving the best of British food with some little mallorcan twists and is owned by husband and wife team Rob and Amber Kirby.

Rob has been a chef for over 40 years, a regular contributor on BBC Television, is an award winning author of three cookbooks, cooked for the British Royal Family and is a fellow of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts. They are open all year round and their weekend brunches are stuff of legends!

You can be sure of a big warm welcome, serious eats, some pretty cool British art dotted around the place and laughter with Rob and Amber’s big personalities. You can book here.
